Meet the Singers!

Nancy Parish, soprano

Nancy works as a singer, pianist, organist and teacher. She has sung with Bronx Opera, Village Light Opera, New York Grand Opera, in off-off Broadway choruses, and in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Constitution Hall (Washington, DC), Royal Albert Hall (London) and the Vatican. She has performed as a member of Chorus Angelorum, touring Europe and South America singing liturgical music. Other small group ensemble experience has included the a cappella groups Women Singing and Uptown Sound.

Tammy Weinfeld, alto

Tammy studied voice, clarinet, and piano at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. In New York City, she has performed with the New Amsterdam Singers, Park Avenue Synagogue Choir, and various chamber music ensembles at the 92nd Street Y. Tammy worked as a speech pathologist for 20 years, specializing in adult rehabilitation; and more recently as an elementary-school music teacher with a specialty in chorus and wind instruments.

Peter Zinman, tenor

Peter has been singing with Uncommon Chord since the year 2000. When he is not being begged by his young son to stop singing in the house, he manages Gas Turbine Controls Corporation, an international energy equipment and services company. He also serves on the Executive Board of the Men’s Division of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. On rare occasion, he finds time to work at his collection of vintage college freshman rules broadsides.

John Gibson

John Gibson, baritone

With vocal music roots dating back over 40 years, John Gibson-Whitley is privileged to be a part of Uncommon Chord. In New York, San Diego, and his hometown of Cincinnati, John’s sung with numerous choral and vocal ensembles, most notably the NYC a cappella group Mystery Date.

John has performed in NYC cabarets and stadiums, at Carnegie Hall and on Broadway. Recordings include Sweet Sixteen, Simply Gershwin, and History Remembers. Theater credits include Corpus Christi, Next Fall, Shopping and F#*king, She Loves Me, and West Coast premieres of the new musicals Harmony Kansas and Yank!

By day he is a lighting consultant for home owners and small business: http://johngibsondesign.com/

Richard Berg, bass

Richard is a lifelong instrumentalist who can’t resist the lure of vocal music. Since his 2007 arrival, he has sung low bass for a wide variety of New York ensembles, anchoring harmonic progressions and scaring small children across NYC.

He serves as President of new-music vanguard Cantori New York, and can be heard in the professional choruses of the Chameleon Ensemble and the Church of the Holy Trinity.

Jared Graveley, director

Jared is Uncommon Chord’s music director and upright bass player. When he’s not walking basslines that are probably a little too complicated, he’s singing classically with professional choral ensembles, conducting, and arranging. On a day off, you’d probably find Jared playing chess in the park, cooking a tasty meal, or spending time with his and Alyssa’s beautiful Siberian cat, Hazel. If you ask, Jared will almost always be down for a board game or a barbershop tag (within reason).
